Trusted Partners: The Realtors and Lawyers We Work With in BC
People ask us this often enough that it deserves a page. When a mortgage is in motion, the other professionals around it matter, and the wrong one can cost you more than a rate difference ever will.
These are the people we work with regularly and send our own clients to. No one pays to be listed here.
Hilbert & Crick Real Estate Group — Kelowna
Becky Hilbert and Dallas Crick run the Hilbert & Crick Real Estate Group in Kelowna, licensed through Real Broker B.C. Ltd. We have worked alongside them on Central Okanagan purchases and sales for years, and they are the realtors we point people to when someone is buying or selling in Kelowna, West Kelowna or Lake Country.
What we value: they are straight with clients about what a property is worth and what it will take to get it, which makes the financing side far easier to plan around. Two things that say more than any endorsement: we bought our own West Kelowna home through them, and Dallas appears in almost every episode of our podcast.
Watch: Meet Becky and Dallas
Becky Hilbert and Dallas Crick explain how they work as a two-agent team: a detailed checklist from accepted offer to possession, pulling the city file so nothing about the property is a surprise, and staying in touch with clients long after the move.
Watch our series with Dallas
Every quarter, Mike Lloyd and Dallas Crick sit down to talk about the Kelowna market from both sides of a purchase: the home and the mortgage. Topics so far include what a quiet market means for buyers, how to know you’re ready to buy, why Mike sends his own clients to Hilbert & Crick, and a running predictions scorecard. Watch the series with Dallas Crick.
Acorn Law Corporation — Kelowna
Dani Britto is a lawyer at Acorn Law in Kelowna, and handles the legal side on a great many of our Okanagan files. Conveyancing on a purchase, refinance or transfer, plus wills and estate planning.
What we value: conveyancing detail is where a general practitioner can cost a client real money, particularly on a tight completion. Having a lawyer who already knows how our files are structured removes friction we would otherwise be solving under a deadline. We also shot a series of explainer videos with Dani covering the purchase process, wills and estate planning, when to involve a lawyer, and assignments and guarantors, and we use them on this site and share them with clients.
Spagnuolo LLP — Lower Mainland and across British Columbia
Tony Spagnuolo has been practising real estate law in British Columbia since 1989, and we have known him for more than twenty years. The firm he built now runs offices across the province from its head office in Coquitlam, with his sons working in the business alongside him.
What we value: a good share of our files are in the Lower Mainland, and Spagnuolo is who we send them to. Twenty years of working with the same firm means we know how they handle a file, and they know how we structure one. On a tight completion that saves phone calls nobody has time for. We also use several of Tony’s explainer videos on this site, because he is better at explaining the legal side of a transaction than we are.
Axess Law — British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario
A newer option we have added for clients, and the one we reach for when a file sits outside the places where good real estate counsel is easy to find. Axess Law does fixed-fee real estate closings and runs a mobile signing network, which means one of their signing agents can meet a client in person almost anywhere in the province. Axess Law also has its own offices in the Lower Mainland.
What we value: we work across British Columbia by video, and a client in a smaller or rural community often has very little local choice for conveyancing. Being able to send a signing to them, rather than asking them to drive two hours each way, solves a real problem. Fixed pricing also means a client knows the legal cost before they commit.
Oh My Good Mess — Okanagan
Anissa Penneway is the owner and organizer at Oh My Good Mess, a professional organizing business in the Okanagan. We work with Anissa on educational sessions for seniors, and refer clients to her when a move means dealing with decades of accumulated belongings.
What we value: for a lot of people, particularly those downsizing later in life, the obstacle to moving is not the mortgage. It is the house full of things and no idea where to start. Financing that move is straightforward by comparison, and it is not much use if the practical side never gets off the ground.
Watch: Meet Oh My Good Mess
Michael Anthony Lloyd sits down with Oh My Good Mess to talk about what professional organizing actually involves, how they handle the emotional side of downsizing without pressuring anyone to let go, and how their move management coordinates the movers, cleaners, realtors and mortgage brokers so the move comes together in one piece.
How we choose who to recommend
We do not accept payment, referral fees or any other consideration for appearing on this page. Everyone here is someone we use ourselves, and the list stays short for that reason.
If we stop working with someone, they come off the page. A recommendation that is not current is worse than none at all.
